Southern Weddings Inspiration

5 Feb

**Paper Poste is on hold this week because I’m stuck with what direction I want to take it.  I’m bored with it, to be honest, and need to find it’s mojo again.**

If you follow me on Instagram, you may know that I received a few issues of Southern Weddings for Christmas.  Needless to say, I was smitten with the magazines (as I knew I would be), and, while all the weddings featured in the pages were beautiful, this one stood out the most and spoke to my style.

As I’m working through this slight rebranding process, I’m forced to consider who my ideal client is and have to delve into all the hard questions. (blegh).  BUT, that’s where the magic happens; so I’m doing it.

I’ll share more on that in the next few weeks as I really get a feel for it.  Since this particular wedding fired me up and made my heart explode immediately, this is where it’s at: LOTS of pattern and bold color and fun things!

Admittedly, this look is not for everyone and I’m all for a classic wedding–with a twist, of course–but I am so head-over-heels for this fete that I had to share.

I am telling you: that bouquet and table cloth?!  Speaking right to my heart.

This couple quoted: “If your wedding doesn’t feel inspired, it runs the risk of being less memorable.”  And, there you have it, friends.  That’s what it’s all about. (and love, of course!)

All the images can be found in Part 1 and Part 2.

inspiration: mint

24 Jan

While we’re experiencing this deep freeze in Ontario, I’ve been craving spring and some bright color!  No surprise there!  This backdrop has been a huge inspiration for me since the minute I saw it a few weeks ago.  Let’s just say there are some beautiful things in the works and I hope you all love it as much as I do!  More will be unveiled in the next few weeks.  Perhaps just in time for Valentine’s Day!

In the meantime, drink in these gorgeous colors and feel the springtime just shining out!

By the way, those invitations are DIY.  I encourage you to check out the link for yourself.  This project may definitely be in my future!  The balloon tassels can also be created easily enough and add so much punch to already awesome oversized balloons!

A little mint, the perfect raspberry shade of pink, a smattering of gold, a fluffy bouquet, design-it-yourself invitations, and some gorgeous shoes equal a bash that’s worthy of your love story!  Because you can never go wrong with fluffy flowers and some amazing shoes.

rustic chic reception

7 Oct

Part of the reason I think September flew by was because I was planning this significant event for my brother and sister-in-law.  They got married on September 21 in Alberta, and as courtesy to all of the Grand Rapids, Michigan guests, we hosted an open-house-style reception for them the following Saturday there.  My mom, who has always had serious amounts of faith in my creativity and has been my biggest cheerleader in starting this business (hey, mom!), asked me to design it all!  Needless to say, I was excited because, as I’ve said before, event planning is my jam, and it was for my brother and his wife!  Actually, I’m still excited because now I get to show all of you!

The bride was game to be surprised with the look and was not interested in carrying over the design from the weekend before (although, I did ask!).  As I told you earlier, when I found this inspiration board, I knew it was the look we were going for.  I knew she liked a little rustic chic, and the groom loves his orange; he’s painted everything from his room to his Mustang in the vibrant hue.  But, I guess you could say it all started with the fabric.

Isn’t it fantastic?!  Obviously, I ordered it right away and began pulling things from my home that would match.  Every throw pillow I own fit their scheme as well as multiple vases/containers I have.  I literally filled up the trunk of our car with just decor items.

As you may remember from Girl Bash, I created a dessert bar backdrop and wanted to use that in this event as well.  Having that backdrop can really pull a room together when you’re working with a blank slate and everything else is table height.  It brings the ceiling down and makes the room more cohesive.

That banner was simply perfect!  It is a custom piece and was SO much fun to design.  Hanging it definitely was a smashing final touch!

Everything about this day was a family affair.  My sister spray-painted dozens of sticks gold for me and created the chicken-wire photo frame that featured images from their wedding day.  Together we rolled bunches of silverware and tied with fabric pieces and stabbed pecks of apple favors with the awesome little thank you tags!

The favor table was beautiful.  Placed at the entrance, it gave guests a glimpse of what was to come with it’s zesty fabric runner and tipped over crate spilling the apple favors.  It featured a sign with a plane motif since the bride and groom did plenty of flying to see each other during their long-distance relationship.

Something I’ve seen and really loved at weddings (or any party, really), is a seating area.  It’s simply cozy!  This area allows for people to sit and chat in a more comfortable environment than the dining table and is a change of pace.  I used rustic crates and all my throw pillows to create a small seating area, and it was full the entire event (as you can see here)!

The ladies of the catering the school PTA catering that I used to work with did a fantastic job with the simple buffet menu and the dessert bar.

Congratulations, again, to my brother and his beautiful wife!  It was an absolute joy to design and execute this and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

life, stuff, and crazy business

24 Sep

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve been here!  Between designing a fabulously awesome wedding reception for this weekend to brainstorming my brand and deciding what I want the most to researching and learning so much about blog design, I’ve been consciously neglecting writing.  Sorry to leave you hanging!  I’m so happy to have everyone who’s visited despite my slacking off!  I really appreciate you!

So, if you follow my Instagram (and I highly suggest you do–especially this weekend as I’ll be posting images from the party!), you may have seen a little of what I’ve been up to.  I love every bit of it!  Wedding design is my jam, guys.  Happy Tags for thank you favors--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comLove banner for dessert table--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.com

Make sure you check the sneak peeks out this weekend to see how it all comes together.  I’m so excited to bring the image in my head to life!

In addition to wedding design, I’ve been redesigning this little blog and really honing in on what I want to be about, etc.  Seriously?  This takes time.  It’s a safe bet to assume I’m learning patience.  Weird that this is what it took!  I honestly had no idea how much actually goes into a successful, gorgeously designed webpage/blog!  I mean, I knew it was time-consuming and a labor of love, but wow!  This is intense.

With that and focusing on making a brand I’m proud of, I’m getting new photos of myself for it tomorrow!  I’m really excited to get those heels immortalized in photos!  I’m a shoe fiend and don’t get to wear fun ones very often except on weekends, so this should be good.
headshot outfit idea--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comThese sound like they are going to be a blast, but I’m a little nervous (well, nervous-excited) to be in front of the camera for something so significant as this.

Anyway, I’ll wrap up this ramble, but just wanted to throw it out there that life is amazingly crazy and I’ve been working hard behind the scenes on a lot of things that will very soon be out here for you all to see.  Until then, I really appreciate your presence here and can’t wait to bring you more amazing content to inspire as well as a new look!

more for monday

standing in the rain; wedding planning--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comThat was me on Saturday, soaked from the knees down as the rain was drizzling sideways.   This, my friends, is the glamorous life of a wedding planner.  I love it.  This is when I remembered why I always, always bring a second outfit and was so thankful I had stuck with my gut that morning.   It was such an amazing experience to be working as part of the Bride’s Butler team and I got to meet two of my favorite photographers.  Day made, in my book.

I actually can’t believe we’re in the full swing of September.  Last week was nutty around here, but delightfully so, and it was fabulous to be crazy busy for a week.

This week, I’m looking forward to focusing on a few things: new blog headshots: (thinking this would be a fabulous prop),

Well, I’m off to a successful start so far, and looking forward to a successful week.  Note to all of us, courtesy of someone VERY close to me: “There’s something positive in everything, Anna.  Always look for it.”  Man, I love that guy.  Happy Monday!

the paper poste

28 Aug

Rice.  Birdseed.  Confetti.  All have been known to be the visual celebration of a couple’s vows.  The congratulations flow after the “I do’s”, and the toss commences.  Rice has been called a detriment to birds’ health, birdseed is kind of a pain to be covered in, but confetti is fun and can be colored any way you want it!

Can’t get enough of confetti (I sure can’t!)?  Go all out and host an entirely confetti-ed party!  Bright, vivid, gorgeous colors and shapes emerge to form a perfect fete!

Oooh!  I’m just so in love with the little bags of confetti for your guests to dust you in!  What do you think?  A little or a lot, you have to admit the tiny bits inspire smiles and add to the celebration of a new marriage!

21 Aug

I’m so in love with my next event that I had to find paper suites to go with the aesthetic!  (I love when new opportunities present themselves!).  I keep thinking maybe someday I will be so sick of chevron, but, truth is, I’m not so sure!  I am a pattern lover; no way around that!

Without further chit-chat, I’ll let the pretty speak for itself!

Modern green and orange color palette--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comoh lovely day

This is the gorgeous inspiration for my latest event.  More will follow in the next little bit, but for now, I just wanted to share because I LOVE it and I’m SO excited about how everything in my head will turn out.  I’m thinking: amazing.

Also, how supercool is that chevron fabric?!  Can’t wait to get my hands on some.  I’ll be honest: I never really liked the fabric store as much as I think I might now!  Maybe I am related to my sister after all (Hey, M! Love ya!).

What do you think?  Are you as in love with it as I am?  For tomorrow’s Paper Poste, I even found an invitation suite that fits into this amazingly well!
