into the magic

12 Feb

Great things never came from comfort zones--lettered by Spunky Sapphire Events--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comInside your comfort zone is NOT where the magic happens.  Great things–the truly amazing things–do not happen while in comfort zones.  They happen when you get brave enough to leap outside the lines–or even tiptoe!

I was recently introduced to Marie Forleo’s work and business resources and I’ve been hearing this phrase a lot: “big-hearted creatives who wear their hearts on their sleeves”.  *shudder*

See, wearing my heart on my sleeve and being vulnerable is outside my comfort zone.  You know why? Because that means I can get hurt.  For me, it’s easier to just smile and nod, listen politely, and not let my true feelings or opinions leak because that means I might meet confrontation and-BAM-get my heart bruised.

It would totally be easier to come home from my job and read a book all evening or have not a care in the world and live my evenings leisurely.  I agree.

I actually tried that late last year; I succeeded for a few days.  Then, I got bored, and felt stagnant; that I wasn’t making the difference I knew I could be.

I wasn’t created to have a job or a life like that!

crave the excitement and chaos of creating things, of working my bum off to make something pretty and seeing it come to fruition, to blog a quote that inspires me and succeed in inspiring others through it.  It’s absolutely incredible to reach out to other creative women and forge new paths and create new relationships and encourage each other.

Pursuing this passion of mine and trying to make it profitable is making me nervous and is a generally nail-biting journey because of the unknown.  It’s WAY out of my comfort zone and every step I come to is scarier than the last, but all have been totally worth it in some way a million times over. Most importantly–and the reason I continue to vigorously pursue–I have no regrets.

When I’m eighty, I don’t want to look back and regret not even trying

While it’s terrifying to get out of my comfort zone, it’s exhilarating to be the force behind this, to be part of something greater in this world, and to feel every sense absolutely tingling when I’m elbow-deep in something fabulous.

Whatever little fear (and I do mean little, because looking back, it will seem small) you harbor about stepping out of your comfort zone is nothing compared to the absolute in-your-element-glory you will feel when you accomplish something you never thought you could do.  All because you took a little leap!

working it

17 Jan

It may not be easy, but it will be worth it.--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comThe good things in life take work.  It can be mind-numbing at times to focus and just DO it.

That workout plan takes work.  You can hate every single second of jumping rope.  But, then, you realize you can actually hold a plank for more than a minute on your first try in forever.  Those abs, baby!

You can be drowning in designing, asking yourself questions and playing around with everything and getting frustrated and THEN you discover how to make glitter on Photoshop.  AMAZING.  It just makes everything better!  Plus, you discover the EXACT raspberry pink color you’ve been dreaming of.  And, it’s called raspberry!

The good things.  Those beautiful, incredible, phenomenal things take so much work are a million times worth it!  Just keep at it.  I promise you: it will be gorgeous and something you’ll always be proud of and grateful for.

cheers to december

3 Dec

In case you hadn’t flipped your calendar yet, it’s December….whaaaat?  Yes.  So, cheers to that!  I love December (with the exception of the freezing cold).

I love everything about this time of year: Christmas, catching up with family and friends, looking back on a year and forward to another incredible one!  The sparkle, the warmth, the love–all of it fires me up.  I’m not going to deny that this also means I get to wrap stuff and play with paper, tags, handwriting, and fabulous tape!

Despite November being a bit of a relaxed month, December is ramping up to be a bit of a doozy!  I have full weekends and I’m SO excited about it!  Parties, concerts, family time, and travel add up to make it a purposeful month.  Always a good thing for me.

While doing some Pink Friday shopping at Miss Modern, and stocking up on some super pretty patterns, I discovered this pretty “Cheers!” print.  Guess what?  You can download it for free, too!  If you’re like me, the pretty in pink and handlettering will be the selling point for you.  I’m thinking it’ll be around here year-round and possibly find a home on my bar cart!
Cheers print by Miss Modern--styled by theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comGo get yours, because, honestly?  A girl can never have to many well-designed prints for her space.

(I received the gold striped straws for my birthday, and am told you can find them at Target!)

doubting your reach

2 Dec

I think, as women, we tend to doubt our ability to be awesome.  We think, “Wow, I only have twelve followers”, and play the game of comparing ourselves to, oh, only every other woman we are inspired by.  How in the world can we, with only so “few” watching, be inspiring/helpful/make a difference?  Picture those people in real life: twelve people is a crowd!  A crowd that’s taking in your awesome-ness and wants to see what you’ve got going on!
You make a difference--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.com

Maybe the “few” are your kids and family.  Maybe it’s your elderly neighbor who you always wave and chat to.  Maybe it’s that new follower who really looks up to you as an industry leader and eats up everything you create and share!  You may think you’re not being inspiring enough or reaching the “right” people (whoever they are), but you’re actually reaching the right people.

Your right people.

Don’t knock yourself down for not seemingly being the biggest and best.  You touch people.  I promise you, you reach the people who really matter; the ones who believe in you and who LOVE what you do and think you’re awesome because you’re authentic to yourself.

Stick to your guns and to what matters most.  By being authentically yourself, you’re making a difference.  You are enough.

Modern green and orange color palette--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comoh lovely day

This is the gorgeous inspiration for my latest event.  More will follow in the next little bit, but for now, I just wanted to share because I LOVE it and I’m SO excited about how everything in my head will turn out.  I’m thinking: amazing.

Also, how supercool is that chevron fabric?!  Can’t wait to get my hands on some.  I’ll be honest: I never really liked the fabric store as much as I think I might now!  Maybe I am related to my sister after all (Hey, M! Love ya!).

What do you think?  Are you as in love with it as I am?  For tomorrow’s Paper Poste, I even found an invitation suite that fits into this amazingly well!

Intentional Living quote by Richie Norton--post by theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comImage by Richie Norton

Continuing the spirit of Intentional August (as instated by Lara Casey–follow #IntentionalAugust for inspiration), I’m posting this awesome quote.  How true is this?!  And, let me tell you, it is an ART–so difficult some days.  I challenge you to live intentionally.  Make the conscious effort to do the things that fire you up and help you to serve others better.

Trust me, this quote–and through it, the perspective it sheds light on–has lit a fire under me to do it; to live intentionally.  When I first thought of “living intentionally” and making conscious decisions, the realization that if we don’t, “others’ choices make us” never crossed my radar.  Yikes.  I’ve really seen that in this last week that if I don’t make a move and state what I want to do, someone will decide for me whether I like the outcome or not.

Not happening.  I am determined to make my own choices and make things happen!  Happy Monday!

image by theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comYou know those things you keep meaning to do, but keep finding reasons for why they’re not done?  Maybe it’s that business plan you haven’t “gotten around to yet” or that blog post you’ve been “meaning to write” or that healthy lifestyle you really want to live but you “have no motivation”.

This week, stop the excuses.  Start anywhere.

This week, make a mini list–three things toward whatever goal you’ve been working toward.  Knock those three tiny things out, and you’ll be well on your way.  Sometimes, doing something is all the motivation you need.  Write that grocery list, clear the clutter for five minutes with a garbage bag (trust me, you’ll feel so CLEAN and motivated when the five minutes are up), or jot down a few notes for that blog post.

The KEY to remember with this mini list is that it’s NOT your regular to-do list that tends to get buried in the long-term duties like “launch my business”, “lose 20 pounds”, and “start three blog series this month”.   Baby steps.  That’s what it’s all about.  All the little things get you the big one.

So!  What are you going to can the excuses on this week?  What’s your mini list look like for this week?  Tell me below!  Happy marvelous Monday.

handwriting by Joelle Duff of A Charming Occasion--featured on theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comvia

Here’s to saying a big fat YES to stuff this week.  This is my new desktop thanks to Joelle Duff.  (Her handwriting is pretty awesome, right?)

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!  I spent it by the pool, relaxing with the birthday boy (my honey’s birthday was yesterday), and planning for this week and my funny work schedule!  Enjoy this last full week of July (ee-yikes!) and do something crazy.  Say “YES” to something, anything!
