New Headshots

11 Oct

I have been waiting ever so impatiently for these, and the other night, I was able to pick up the disc with all my images!  Hooray!  How gorgeous is that lighting?  And the flowers!Spunky Sapphire Wedding Planner Headshots--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comPink wild bouquet, wedding bouquet--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.comSpunky Sapphire Events--wedding planner headshots--theSpunkySapphire.wordpress.com

Special thanks to Liz Heikoop Photography for the images and to Steve and Patrice from Flowers by the Dozen for the insanely awesome bouquet!

Happy weekend!  Go do something fabulous.

rustic chic reception

7 Oct

Part of the reason I think September flew by was because I was planning this significant event for my brother and sister-in-law.  They got married on September 21 in Alberta, and as courtesy to all of the Grand Rapids, Michigan guests, we hosted an open-house-style reception for them the following Saturday there.  My mom, who has always had serious amounts of faith in my creativity and has been my biggest cheerleader in starting this business (hey, mom!), asked me to design it all!  Needless to say, I was excited because, as I’ve said before, event planning is my jam, and it was for my brother and his wife!  Actually, I’m still excited because now I get to show all of you!

The bride was game to be surprised with the look and was not interested in carrying over the design from the weekend before (although, I did ask!).  As I told you earlier, when I found this inspiration board, I knew it was the look we were going for.  I knew she liked a little rustic chic, and the groom loves his orange; he’s painted everything from his room to his Mustang in the vibrant hue.  But, I guess you could say it all started with the fabric.

Isn’t it fantastic?!  Obviously, I ordered it right away and began pulling things from my home that would match.  Every throw pillow I own fit their scheme as well as multiple vases/containers I have.  I literally filled up the trunk of our car with just decor items.

As you may remember from Girl Bash, I created a dessert bar backdrop and wanted to use that in this event as well.  Having that backdrop can really pull a room together when you’re working with a blank slate and everything else is table height.  It brings the ceiling down and makes the room more cohesive.

That banner was simply perfect!  It is a custom piece and was SO much fun to design.  Hanging it definitely was a smashing final touch!

Everything about this day was a family affair.  My sister spray-painted dozens of sticks gold for me and created the chicken-wire photo frame that featured images from their wedding day.  Together we rolled bunches of silverware and tied with fabric pieces and stabbed pecks of apple favors with the awesome little thank you tags!

The favor table was beautiful.  Placed at the entrance, it gave guests a glimpse of what was to come with it’s zesty fabric runner and tipped over crate spilling the apple favors.  It featured a sign with a plane motif since the bride and groom did plenty of flying to see each other during their long-distance relationship.

Something I’ve seen and really loved at weddings (or any party, really), is a seating area.  It’s simply cozy!  This area allows for people to sit and chat in a more comfortable environment than the dining table and is a change of pace.  I used rustic crates and all my throw pillows to create a small seating area, and it was full the entire event (as you can see here)!

The ladies of the catering the school PTA catering that I used to work with did a fantastic job with the simple buffet menu and the dessert bar.

Congratulations, again, to my brother and his beautiful wife!  It was an absolute joy to design and execute this and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
